Intermediate Fiber Studio

Explores more advanced techniques used in the basic fiber media, weaving and surface design. Technical focus of each class varies. Covers pattern development, expanded scale, visual clarity, and conceptual depth. Prerequisite: either ART 226 or ART 227.

Class description

SPRING 2002 This is a multi-media, interdisciplinary course in which students use the loom among their tools in the Artmaking process. There will be discussions + demonstrations of the basic skills needed and useful structures as applied not only to cloth making, but also to sculpture, architecture and site specific installations.

Recommended preparation

All art students who have completed the foundations sequence and at least one 200-level, media based course.

Students with diverse backgrounds are encouraged to enroll.

All majors welcome!

Class assignments and grading

Course assignments will emphasize an inventive approach to technical and conceptual work, including materials exploration and manipulation.

Grading will be based on participation, completion of work, inventive approach to problem solving, and ability to resolve projects successfully.
