Beginning Sculpture -- Wood and Metal

Introduction to sculpture, focusing on the use of wood and metal. Investigations center on a wide variety of methods and approaches, from traditional to technical, to promote visual expression. Class discussions and critiques focus on better understanding of the creative process.

Class description

Winter 2002- Beginning Sculpture- Wood

Learning a variety of wood working techniques, safe operation of wood working equipment and tools and promoting visual expression and exploration of the creative process within the sculptureal discipline.

General method of instruction

Lectures, demonstrations, critique, discussions, etc.

Recommended preparation

Prerequisites: Art 121, 123, and 124

Class assignments and grading

Instructor assigned projects (4-6 projects), short artist research presentation, etc. Lab fees not inteded to cover all expenses of the class. Lab fees will generally cover basic consumeable supplies

Grading based on quality of projects in terms of content and craftmanship, class participation, presenatations, notebooks to be collected, etc.
