Concepts in Printmaking

Introduction to contemporary printing methods such as monotype, monoprint, stencil, and photocopy. Survey of historical and current approaches to the art of printmaking.

Class description

This class will introduce students to fundamental concepts in printmaking. These concepts include both historical and contemporary approaches to image development in print medium.

Student learning goals

General method of instruction

This is a studio class; instruction will include demonstration, lecture, and group critiques. This class will utilize water based relief printing methods, monoprints, stencil, and photocopy.

Recommended preparation

Foundation courses

Class assignments and grading

Assignments will include drawing and printing assignments plus readings.

Grading will be based on active participation in class and on the quality and quantity of work produced.
