Introduction to Surface

Basic techniques of dying, printing, and embellishing, with emphasis on their conceptual uses in art making.

Class description

Basic dye techniques, including printing, and their use as expressive media.

General method of instruction

Hands-on demonstrations & projects, critiques.

Recommended preparation

Foundation courses (art 121, 123 and 124)

Class assignments and grading

Technical studies, creative projects, 2-3 related articles.

Progress over time, technical development, creative engagement.
