Presentation of process through which artists discover and translate ideas, feelings, and concerns into images or objects. Use of a wide variety of methods and approaches, from traditional to technological, to promote visual expression. Discussion and critiques leading toward better understanding the creative process.
Class description
This foundations level art course offers students a chance to study art practice and design through sound, motion, and interactivity. You will be introduced to the principle of time based art and its execution through audio, video, and more. At the conclusion of this class, you will be able to produce, interpret, and critique such work. The content and technical concerns of this course are relevant to students with interests in new means of articulating a visual aesthetic.

General method of instruction
Lectures will give this class context. You will be introduced to historical, technological, philosophical, and cultural issues that have influenced art since the 1900s with relevance to our theme of time based art. Critiques will allow you to present your work, exchange ideas about how your classmates experience it, and share your thoughts about their work. Due to the accelerated nature of this class, some critiques may be used as in-class work sessions. Tech Labs will familiarize you with media and technology of time-based art. From these sessions, you will have the skills to complete course assignments.
