Appreciation of Architecture I

Historical survey of the architecture of Western civilization. For nonmajors.

Class description

Arch 150 is the first of two courses on Architecture Appreciation. This course presents a chronological survey of the history of western and non-western architecture from Pre-history through the Middle Ages, with emphasis on the relationship between architectural forms and cultural contexts.

General method of instruction

Two image-based lectures per week.

Recommended preparation

Curiousity about the world and its architecture.

Class assignments and grading

There will be four multiple choice quizzes each worth 25% of the total grade.
