Special Topics in Fluid Physics

Offered: AWSp.

Class description

Learn about (1) plasma transport across magnetic fields (2) magnetic reconnection (3) an application: fusion energy for space propulsion. Aim to familiarize the student with fundamental and applied topics in plasma physics. Each topic will be introduced in a historical context leading to present day understanding. Models attempting to answer the questions will be developed and their limitations highlighted. Assignements consists of developing computer codes to solve systems of equations, reviewing literature and a presentation to the class.
