Research Design

Provides grounding in research designs, such as experimental, longitudinal, cross-sectional, case-study, and action research design. Helps professionals design and evaluate research proposals and be astute consumers of published research. Develops research proposals that can be submitted for institutional review at UW. Class description

Students will gain an understanding of key compontents of the research design process. Topics will include the formulation of a research question, reviewing existing research, selecting an appropriate design, and considering relavent ethical issues. Students will gain experience in designing and evaluating research proposals.

Class assignments and grading

Students will complete a variety of assignments as they learn tasks necessary to produce a research proposal. Assignments will include the formulation of a research question, a literature review, peer reviews, a proposal outline, and a complete research proposal.
