Quantitative Reasoning

Strengthens quantitative reasoning and develops problem solving and critical thinking skills through studying mathematics that can be used in everyday lives and careers.

Class description

Fall 2004: We will be looking at mathematics as developed in other cultures in an effort to explore new ways of doing and thinking about quantitative issues. In particular, we will look at examples from Africa, India, and South America.

General method of instruction

This class will consist of lecture, group problem solving in class, and online discussions of relevant readings.

Recommended preparation

There are no prerequisites for this class just a willingness to learn mathematics in new settings.
