Investigates relationships between the study and making of art. Explores connections among written, visual, and performance arts and engages their intellectual, social, and aesthetic dimensions.
Class description
Interdisciplinary Arts Core is a required class for all Interdisciplinary Arts students, and covers various different topics from quarter to quarter. This quarter the emphasis will be on the interdisciplinary cross-overs between writing and media.

General method of instruction
Since this is an introductory course, much time will be spent reading, discussing and understanding material drawn from various interdisciplinary art practices, histories, and theories. There will be small projects, writing assignments, quizzes and tests throughout, designed to acclimate students to these various modes.
Recommended preparation
This course is designed for students of all levels and interest. However, it is strongly encouraged that students have an interest in learning about contemporary art, experimental poetics, and various new genres that may challenge your preconceptions of what constitutes "art." Students should also be prepared to work with Macintosh computers, and have some basic familiarity with them.
