Explores in depth a specific topic in policy analysis and implementation. Topics include environmental policy, educational policy, cultural and arts practices, labor policy, and health care policy.
Class description
This course will provide a introduction to health policy and will examine the organization and structure of healthcare systems within the United States. Several key topics will include the history of the U.S. healthcare system, subcomponents of the U.S. healthcare system (private insurance, HMOs, Medicare, Medicaid), and ethical dimensions of medical research and practice. This course will also compare and contrast the U.S. healthcare system with national/ universal based systems in Canada, Europe, and Taiwan.
