Understanding Statistics

Presentation of key concepts for understanding and judging reports of statistical analyses and for performing and reporting valid statistical analyses using a limited set of measures and tests.

Class description

This course will provide students with an introduction to the “quantitative tool box” that researchers and social scientist call statistics. Statistics are a way of sharing information about people, places, things, events, and phenomena, and are used to answer questions about the world around us. This course will introduce students to some of the basic concepts of statistics, and will provide students with an opportunity to learn through hands on experience with data. This class will meet in a computer lab so that students can gain experience with the topics as we work our way through the course.
