Introduction to Narrative Ethnography

Introduction to narrative ethnography. Focuses on the making of narrative ethnographic knowledge (observing, asking, listening, analyzing, writing up) through experiential exercises.

Class description

An introduction to cultural anthropology through narrative ethnography. Read/discuss two narrative ethnographies. In addition read personal essays describing diverse ethnographic encounters. Students will also focus on the making of narrative ethnographic knowledge: observing, asking, listening, analyzing, writing up. Students will complete experiential exercises and a mini-narrative ethnography as a course project.
