Focuses on recent research in the area of child and adolescent learning and on the relationship of learning to human growth and development. Credit/no credit only.
Class description
How do babies learn? How do adolescents learn? How do WE learn as adults? The course will cover similarities and differences among these processes. It will be highly interactive, including conversations with children and with ourselves.
Student learning goals
Students will:
Gain a better understanding of how we learn.
Become knowledgeable about Piaget's developmental stage theory
Learn Vygotsky's ideas about the zone of proximal development
Be able to apply these theories to experiential work outside of class

Readings, writing, observations and interactions with school-age children
