Invention, Innovation, and Entrepreneurs

Offers an exploratory workshop on generating and refining new ideas, both individually and collaboratively, in areas such as business, the arts, and community projects. Offered: A.

Class description

“Invention, Innovation and Entrepreneurs” explores how creativity and innovation intersect. We’ll look at great inventors, their inventions and what problems they were setting out to solve. Then we’ll focus on our own creative ideas in solving problems and leveraging opportunities. The final phase of this course will be how to get your project approved, whether that project is in a business, artistic or community-based organization.

Student learning goals

Understand and respect the creative process

Clearly define a problem or defend an opportunity

Participate in and run a brainstorming session

Recognize how to refine an idea so that it is realistic

Develop and present a compelling case so that a project will be approved

Provide rich feedback to each other

General method of instruction

Lecture, class discussion and interactive exercises. Class participation will be a key element of this course.
