Examines an important social issue such as ecology, art, political change, the power of media, educational reform, or the role of science in contemporary culture through interdisciplinary investigation and the lens of the visual, literary, and performing arts.
Class description
"Traveling Knowledge" will examine different concepts of “travel” such as exploration, information exchange, pilgrimage, vision quest, and tourism; sites where knowledge exchange occurs, including cities, streets, trading routes, cafés, hotels, and the internet; and the impact of globalization on the way knowledge travels.
Student learning goals
General method of instruction
Discussion, informal and formal writing, web research and (possibly) production, films and videos, performance exploration, collaborative work, and a significant amount of reading.
Recommended preparation
Curiosity; a willingess to learn.
Class assignments and grading
A range of assignments, including all of the above related to "forms of instruction."
Participation; grades on writing, other projects.
