Next Steps


The challenge of educating the next generation brings new opportunities to shape the University now and in the future. If we consider carefully whom we can best educate, allocate new resources to enhance selective excellence, and make the most effective use of student and faculty effort, we can move our university forward. To achieve these ends will require high levels of responsibility, the leadership to make tough decisions, and the capacity to innovate and adapt.

Success will require continual planning for growth, excellence and efficiency. This report begins the process but planning cannot end here. No one can see far enough into the future. Some decisions, such as funding and the desire for education are out of our hands. Decisions made today will have unanticipated consequences. Conditions will change.

We do not ask for any new administrative or faculty structures to deal centrally with planning. In fact we want just the opposite. Planning for growth, excellence and efficiency must be decentralized and spread broadly across our three campuses.
