Beginning with the 1987-89 biennium, the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board adopted a national comparison group of 24 institutions for the UW, using the Carnegie Foundation classification of Research University I's with medical schools. In addition, the HEC Board established a salary goal at the 75th percentile rank of the group of 24 institutions.
