2010 Distinguished Alumni Award

We are pleased to announce the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, named from nominations submitted by alumni, faculty and staff: Mahnaz Aflatooni Javid.

Mahnaz  is a 1995 graduate of the University of Washington Bothell (M.Ed.) and has a doctorate in educational leadership, with a focus on educational technologies and human-software interface, from Seattle University. She is passionate about people and organizational capability development and is an expert in integrating technology across disciplines to enhance learning.

Mahnaz was an adjunct faculty member in UW Bothell’s Computing & Software Systems program from 2000-02. She then joined Microsoft and held several positions including director of readiness at Enterprise and Partners Group. For the past three years she has been vice president of global learning and development at Avanade, a high-tech consultancy, where she manages a global team focused on training and talent management of its 10,000 employees.

Mahnaz is committed to, and has been involved in, community service and social and economic development projects in the U.S., South and Central America and Africa for the past 15 years. She is one of the founding members of the Mona Foundation, a nonprofit organization supporting grassroots educational initiatives, raising the status of women and girls in the U.S. and abroad. This organization now touches the lives of about 30,000 children in 19 projects in 15 countries. She is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions and is a frequent presenter at conferences on educational leadership and social and economic development.

Mahnaz is married to Shannon Javid and is the proud mother of two boys, Paul and Patrick, both of whom are also UW graduates.
