New Alumni Council Leadership

Your Alumni Council held its annual elections on May 5 and selected its leaders, based on your nominations, for the 2009-10 academic year. Calvin Kavalski (Liberal Studies '97, MBA '03) will serve as chair with Joe Santos (Liberal Studies '97) as chair-elect. Michelle Gamboa (CSS ’05) will serve as secretary and Jeremy Reichelt (Bus. ’04) will return as past-chair. Thanks to our outgoing council members for their service and support. Distinguished Alumni

State Rep. Mike Hope

Hope Named '09 Distinguished Alum
State Rep. Mike Hope (R-Lake Stevens) is the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award winner. Hope graduated from UW Bothell in 2006 with a master's degree in policy studies and is the first alumni to hold public office. Active in his community, coaching track and wrestling for the local public high school, Hope and his wife, Sarai, also own Hope's Gym, where student athletes receive personal training and gain athletic knowledge and improvement. This award recognizes UW Bothell alumni who have shown distinguished professional achievements or outstanding community work after graduation.

5K Run/Walk

5K Run Raises $4K for Scholarships
The 4th annual UW Bothell Alumni Council 5K Run-Walk to benefit scholarships was held on May 16. Led by Kim O’Neill (MBA ’06) and managed by students in her BBUS 441 Project Management class, the event drew over 150 runners and walkers and raised more than $4,000 for scholarships. Top winners include Rob Herman, first place runner and Marley Fischtziur, first place walker. Congratulations and special thanks to all who made the event a huge success!


Campus Updates

Business & Education Directors Announced
Sandeep Krishnamurthy has been named incoming director of the Business Program and Brad Portin has been named incoming director of the Education Program, both effective July 1. Krishnamurthy replaces outgoing director Steve Holland who has served since 2002; Portin replaces Linda Watts, who served as interim director for the 2008-09 academic year.

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee

Commencement 2009
UW Bothell hosted its 18th annual Commencement on June 14. Keynote speaker U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee honored the more than 700 graduating students in his address. Please help us welcome these new alumni to the Dawg Pack!

Enrollment Continues to Rise
Enrollment figures for fall 2009 continue to rise. To date, we have received a remarkable 1,155 applications for our incoming freshman class of 325 students. This is an almost 4-to-1 ratio of applicants to admitted students, mirroring, and in many cases outperforming, the finest institutions in our region. Transfer and graduate applications are on the rise as well. Thanks for your assistance in generating great enrollment buzz!


Husky Summer Celebration

Join your fellow Huskies for a night at the ballpark as we watch the Everett AquaSox take on the Eugene Emeralds, Saturday, Aug. 8 at Memorial Stadium in Everett. An all-you-can-eat BBQ begins at 6 p.m. and the game—with fireworks—begins at 7 p.m. Learn more online.
