Field Education Update

Prior to the beginning of the school year, field instructors and professors came together at the 2010 Field Education Kickoff to share information and discuss new ways to integrate learning opportunities for students between the classroom and practicum.

Field instruction is a key component of a social work education, giving students the opportunity to work alongside experienced social work professionals and apply the knowledge they’re gaining in the classroom in real time. More than 30 percent of an enrolled student’s credit hours are applied in practicum and the UW School of Social Work’s 300 field instructors cover many diverse areas of expertise.

In future issues of the alumni E-newsletter, we’ll profile the innovative work being done in these important student/instructor partnerships.
