Janis Avery, MSW '84, Named CEO of Treehouse
Janis Avery has been executive director of Treehouse since 1995 and was recently named its CEO by the board of directors. Under her leadership, Treehouse has grown from serving 950 foster children to more than 5,000 children each year. Programs have expanded to include innovative educational success programs and college and career planning. As a result of these expansions, the organization has increased its staff from 10 members to 60.
Avery has served on the Children Youth and Families Advisory Committee, the Children’s Alliance Public Policy Committee and the Child Welfare Advocacy Committee. She is a respected leader in improving educational outcomes for children in foster care and has co-chaired the statewide Educational Oversight Committee for Children and Youth in Foster Care.
