Taryn Lindhorst, Marcia Meyers and alumna Erin Casey have been honored with the 2010 Society for Social Work Research (SSWR) Excellence in Research Award for their article, "Screening for domestic violence in public welfare offices: An analysis of case manager and client interactions," published in Violence against Women.  In the award letter, Dr. Allen Rubin, SSWR board member and awards committee chair, wrote that "in conferring the award, the Society recognizes the significance of the problem addressed in your research, the rigor of the analysis and its contribution to knowledge in social work and social welfare. The Society conveys the award with the expectation that you will continue to pursue excellence in research and knowledge development in social work."

The award was presented at the Presidential Awards Ceremony on Jan. 15 at the 2010 SSWR Conference in San Francisco.

Jennifer Stuber recently authored an op-ed in The Seattle Times and was featured in two other news stories following the escape of a patient committed to Eastern State Hospital during an outing to a state fair. Read her comments on how media’s reaction to escape of state-committed patient stigmatizes people with mental illness. Peter Pecora, senior director of research services for the Casey Family Programs and professor in the School of Social Work, is lead author on the third revised and expanded edition of The Child Welfare Challenge: Policy, Practice and Research. The book's other authors are Jim Whittaker, the Charles O. Cressey Endowed Professor Emeritus, UW School of Social Work; Anthony Maluccio, the University of Connecticut; Richard Barth and Diane DePanfilis, the University of Maryland; and Bob Plotnick, the Daniel Evans School of Public Affairs, University of Washington, who contributed a chapter on economic security for children and families. Since its original edition in 1992, the text has been widely used in child and family policy and services courses in MSW programs throughout North America.
