A Welcome from the Dean

Dean Edwina Uehara

Greetings from the School of Social Work! Another exciting and productive year is well under way. We were especially pleased this fall to receive a prestigious national award for academic excellence that recognizes our leadership in providing innovative programs to strengthen services to children and families. You’ll find details in this issue’s lead article. This is just one arena in which the School excels and why we continue to rank among the top schools of social work in the nation.

You can also read profiles that highlight the accomplishments of two alumnae. An events calendar, news of note and other features are all designed to keep you informed about the School’s achievements and activities, including those of our alums.

With this issue we are introducing a new format for your e-newsletter. Our new logo reflects the campus-wide effort to create a more consistent identity for schools and colleges throughout the University. We plan to send an issue four times each year to stay in more frequent contact. We value your connection to the School and always welcome your comments, questions, suggestions and ideas for how we might help you get more involved in the life of the School.

We hope you've had an opportunity to read about the impressive outcomes of our School’s successful participation in Campaign UW: Creating Futures in Forum for Change 2008. Several of the stories about the impact of our donors’ generous gifts feature alumni. If by chance you did not receive your copy or have misplaced it, you will find the issue here.

We appreciate your interest in the School of Social Work and look forward to seeing many of you at our events during this academic year.

Warmest regards,

Chair Ray Huey
