UW Police Chief John Vinson Makes History

On Sept. 17, community members, the Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity, the Office of Student Life and the UW President’s Minority Community Advisory Committee (MCAC) celebrated the appointment of the first African-American police chief at the University of Washington. John N. Vinson, who holds a Ph.D. in public administration from Western Michigan University, was appointed UW Chief of Police in February.

The event took place at the Northwest African American Museum and guests included UW Vice President for Minority Affairs and Vice Provost for Diversity Sheila Edwards Lange, MCAC Chair and Seattle City Council member Larry Gossett, the MCAC and other community leaders.
