In Memoriam

This past summer, the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity bid farewell to two great leaders: Dr. Samuel E. Kelly and Ricardo Aguirre.

Dr. Kelly, the first African-American senior administrator at the University of Washington, as well as the founder and first Vice President for Minority Affairs, passed away on July 6; he was 83. View his memorial service, hosted by the OMA&D. You may make a remembrance to the Samuel E. Kelly Endowed Scholarship.

 

Ricardo Aguirre
Ricardo Aguirre

Ricardo Aguirre, an advocate for social justice, passed away July 3 at age 72.  He was the first Latino to play football for the University of Washington and was a co-founder of El Centro de la Raza. Read more about his life.
