Dreamlogs: Artists' Books by Genie Shenk

I went to sleep, where did I go by Genie ShenkSince 1982, Genie Shenk has recorded each night's dream in visual form. Yearly records are a reference of ideas and a source for other works. Her imagery includes circular monoprints, collaged paper and adaptations of illustrations found in antique atlases and dictionaries.

An exhibit of Shenk’s work is currently on display through Sept. 27 in the Allen Library South basement and in Allen Library North’s first-floor balcony.

After receiving an MFA from UCLA in 1990, Genie Shenk studied bookbinding with David Brock in San Diego. She then taught book arts at San Diego Mesa College and at the Athenaeum Library of Music and the Arts in La Jolla for 17 years. Her one-of-a-kind artistsʼ books have been exhibited frequently and are represented in numerous special collections.

The exhibit, curated by Rare Books and Book Arts Curator Sandra Kroupa, highlights Shenk's extensive career.
