Fleeting Shadows Collaboration Garners Gold Prize

The CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education) Awards recognized the Seattle Camera Club in their Collaborative Programs category with a Gold Award from among 32 national entries.

Shadows of a Fleeting World

Shadows of a Fleeting World, the Libraries collection of photos from the camera club of the 1920s, was at the core of the collaboration led by the Libraries’ Joyce Agee, Associate Director for Advancement and Nicolette Bromberg, Visual Materials Curator in Special Collections. Art Historian David Martin contributed to the book published by the UW Press, and the Henry Gallery hosted an exhibit of pictorialist photos panel discussions and outreach activities in early 2011.

The project highlighted the remarkable work done by a group of Japanese immigrants to the region who were known internationally as some of the finest pictorial photographers of the period.
