For all of you who want the inside scoop on the band’s halftime show themes for this fall, I thought I would give you a brief description of each show. I’ve also included the dates of some of our other performances outside of Husky Stadium. Of course the band and cheer squad will, in some way, shape or form, be at every away game this fall.

Sept 5: (Huskies vs. LSU) Jimmy Buffett Show
At halftime, the Husky Varsity-Alumni Band will present a show with a Caribbean flavor as we pay tribute to the music of Jimmy Buffett. What would a Buffett tribute be without a steel drum band, so we’ve solicited the help of one of the best in the Seattle area; the Mercer Island High School Steel Drum Band.

Sept. 12: (Huskies vs. Idaho) 57th Annual High School Band Day
The first performance of the 2009 edition of the Husky Band will also include over 2800 high school marching band members from across the state as they join together for pregame and halftime of this colorful Husky tradition.

Sept. 19: (Huskies vs. USC) Classical Show
The Husky Band will present a musically and visually energetic approach to some of the greatest classics of all time. Beethoven never heard his music performed quite like this! The show will also pay tribute to Seattle Symphony conductor, Gerard Schwarz, who is celebrating his 25th anniversary with the SSO. Maestro Schwarz will also guest conduct the band at halftime.

Oct. 9: (@ Burlington-Edison/Mt. Vernon high school football game)
The entire Husky Band and Cheer Squad will perform for halftime of the Burlington-Edison High School football game vs. cross-town rival Mt. Vernon.

Oct. 10: (Huskies vs. Arizona) 60’s Show w/ 1st Annual Cheer Day
The Husky Band will pay tribute to some of the greatest pop tunes from the 1960s on October 10 when the Huskies take on the Wildcats. This show sure to have a lot of color and pageantry as it is going to be a halftime that jointly features the band and the participants in the UW Athletic Department’s first ever high school “Cheer Day.” The finale will feature a very special guest artist that is sure to stir a lot of memories!

Oct. 24: (Huskies vs. Oregon) Tribute to the Dave Matthews Band
Finally the Ducks return to Husky Stadium and the HMB is planning a great show to mark the occasion. Younger Husky Stadium faithful are sure to enjoy this exciting tribute to Seattle’s own Dave Matthews.

Nov. 14: (Huskies @ Oregon St.) TBA
The band will reprise one of the shows from earlier in the season as the entire HMB and Cheer Squad travels to Corvallis for the annual slugfest with the Beavers.

Nov. 28: (Huskies vs. WSU)  Football Themes Show
For the Apple Cup, the Husky Band plans to definitely stir the emotions of all diehard football fans in attendance with a halftime show that will feature some of the greatest football theme music ever written for television and film.

Dec. 5: (Huskies vs. Cal) “Rain” Show
The band will recreate a 21st century version of a popular halftime from the late '70s/early 80s that has been requested many times by alums of the band. The show is a perpetual motion, tongue-in-cheek tribute to our infamous weather.
