Williamson-Lott Named a UW Distinguished Teacher

Joy Ann Williamson-Lott

Joy Ann Williamson-Lott was recently awarded the University of Washington Distinguished Teaching Award. An annual honor, the distinguished teacher award is given to a few select individuals, who are also inducted into the Teaching Academy.

As Dean Wasley writes, “We all know that Joy is a fantastic teacher, with the ability to engage her students through critical thinking, humor and an incredible enthusiasm for the curriculum. Add that to her mentoring skills and you can see why President Emmert and the UW community believe Joy to be among the best faculty.”

Awards are given based on the following criteria:

• Mastery of subject matter, including the continued growth in his/her own teaching
• Demonstration of enthusiasm and innovation in the teaching and learning process
• Ability to engage students both inside and outside of the classroom
• Aptitude to inspire independent and original thinking in students
• Ability to stimulate students to do creative work
• Innovations in course and curriculum design
