Greetings from the Dean

I hope that this letter finds you well, enjoying the fall and this exciting back-to-school season. Classes are under way at Miller, as some of you may have read in our recent alum E-newsletter, and we’ve begun some exciting new plans. In this issue you’ll meet Terryl Ross, a member of our Alum Advisory Board, and read about some of our emeritus faculty, who are still teaching and making new connections.

On a personal note, this will be a particularly special year for me since I will be leaving my position as dean at the end of this academic year. After a decade in this leadership role, I’ve decided to refocus my efforts on projects around technology and learning as a faculty member at the College. My area of focus will be on creating new designs in education that incorporate new technologies.

As an alum of the College of Education, this leadership opportunity has been terrific! I’ve loved every second of my time working with our stellar faculty, our bright students and our hard-working staff. It has also been inspiring to meet and to work with our fantastic alums.

We’ve gone through two strategic planning efforts, a University-wide campaign and countless projects to improve the College. We have increased the diversity of our student body and our faculty and we have redesigned our Teacher Education Program. The faculty did such innovative work that our college, along with Stanford and Michigan, was recently singled out as an example of a “first rate” institution by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. I’m proud to call this place my home.

It’s been a fabulous decade. As a fellow alum, I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve the legacy of your alma mater as dean.

Yours,

Dean Wasley signature
