You're Hired! Boot Camp Career Workshop '09

Jenni Hogan, ’02, hosted the second annual You’re Hired! Boot Camp career workshop. About 20 graduating seniors joined Hogan and five communication professionals to learn about interviewing, ‘elevator’ speeches, networking and other key job-search strategies. Each student had the unique opportunity to talk to, and get feedback from, professionals in charge of hiring for their companies. At the end of the session, students received their resumes back with comments from the volunteers. Hogan designs and hosts the invitation-only and highly popular workshop. She also recruits the speakers, and this year’s line up was a stellar group:

Jenni Hogan is a member of the KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Team as morning traffic anchor. She was most recently traffic anchor at KOMO-TV in Seattle.

Lorraine Howell, ‘82, started Media Skills Training in 1998 after 12 years as a television news and talk show producer in the San Francisco Bay Area. She coaches top executives and professionals on how to be more effective when speaking to the media or making public presentations. Lorraine is a specialist in message development, presentation skills, media interview skills and crisis communications.

Deanna Heinrich, ‘80, is the head of the HR team for KOMO TV & Fisher Radio Seattle. She is also a part-time instructor at Highline Community College teaching a year-long HR certification course, and often freelances providing creative presentations and keynote addresses to many public, private and nonprofit organizations each year.

Jacque Coe is the Communications Director for Washington's Lottery. She is responsible for all external and internal communications and public relations strategies to raise awareness of the lottery, protect its image, and shape its brand. Jacque is a graduate of Eastern Washington University, holding a B.A. in communications-radio/TV news.

Kirsten Bell is public relations director at GreenRubino, a full-service marketing agency in Seattle, and has more than 10 years of experience in publicity, promotions and marketing in the entertainment, travel and lifestyle categories. Bell attended the University of Southern California where she earned degrees in public relations and cinema-television.

John Peck is an Emmy Award-winning executive producer at KIRO-TV in Seattle. He currently oversees the production of the morning news broadcasts and plays a direct role in hiring the producing and writing staff. Peck graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern California with B.A. degrees in broadcast journalism and political science. He enjoys watching the Trojans defeat the Huskies.
