Note from the Chair

The theme of potential change is in the political air, but here in Biology real change is in action. Most important, Tom Daniel has stepped down as chair. Tom was chair of Zoology for several years before becoming the first chair of Biology. As chair, Tom skillfully guided the merger of Botany, the undergraduate Biology program, and Zoology.  His administrative service is legendary, as is his teaching, mentorship and research contributions. He is now officially emeritus chair of Biology but, fortunately, will still be a professor, colleague and friend for many years to come!

This autumn we are delighted to welcome Takato Imaizumi to the Department as an assistant professor. Takato studies the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying seasonal and daily timekeeping of plants. More hires are in the works, so we will see many faculty changes over the next few years.

One final change of note: I promise to reduce the number of puns emanating from the chair’s office.

Best,

Chair Ray Huey
