Web-based Credit Card Payment Application

The UW Web Credit Card application allows UW departments and areas to accept credit card payments using the World Wide Web. The application's forms make it easy for visitors to purchase products or services, and its full-featured administrative area offers a selection of reports and maintenance functions.

UW Web Credit Card offers an array of features that differentiate it from other commercial Web-based credit card products.

Security

Security is a priority for credit card transactions on the Web! The UW Web Credit Card application has been designed around the latest secure protocols for transferring, storing and managing sensitive data.

Servers are located in UW facilities with limited physical access and managed by UW operations staff. Application security is provided from the ground up and integrated into the UW Authentication infrastructure. This means that data is protected by:

Encrypted transmission and storage of sensitive data (Triple-DES, RSA, SSL).
Cookies that are encrypted, scoped to the UW server, and require SSL for transmission.
Purchase session expiration.
All transactions between the store application and the Web Credit Card application are authenticated.
Purchase requests are validated with the store application to prevent spoofing.
Credit card numbers for one-time charges are never stored on the server.

Auditability

Access to UW Web Credit Card is restricted to particular users, who each have particular levels of access to the program. Who has access, and how much, is determined by your area or department. Protective measures include:

Administrative access to the system is authenticated by UW NetID.
All administrative activities (e.g. credits, refunds, voices) are logged by UW NetID.
Specific individuals can be delegated different levels of responsibility within your department and rights granted appropriately.

Reliability

UW Web Credit Card aims to provide a constant, stable environment in which your web site's visitors can purchase your products and services. UW Web Credit Card features that help to ensure reliability are:

Redundant servers provide service stability
Spare hardware is available for quick replacement if necessary
Service is monitored around the clock by UW operations staff
UW staff are on hand to deal with any connectivity or performance issues

Convenience

The UW Credit Card application is an existing, centrally-hosted system. UW areas using UW Web Credit Card do not have to deal with the technical or cost issues involved in creating or hosting their own application. Advanced yet simple to use features provided in the UW Web Credit Card application take the hassle out of accepting credit cards.
