The University of Washington Libraries seeks a creative and energetic librarian with strong public service skills to participate in a collaborative team at the University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia Community College Campus Library. The successful candidate will be committed to providing a range of services at a growing institution, including, but not limited to: access services, reference, instruction, and collection development.
THE POSITION:
Access Services and Supervision:
Under the direction of the Head, Collections & Access Services, sets local policies and formulates and carries out plans for Campus Library Access Services within the framework of the UW Libraries' current priorities and objectives.
The Access Services/Reference Librarian provides leadership and supervision for Circulation and Document Delivery Services, organizing and monitoring the workload and staffing of the unit to provide online circulation services responsive to user needs. In collaboration with the Circulation supervisor, coordinates collection maintenance, preservation and stacks management for the Campus Library collection. In collaboration with the Reserves Coordinator, assists with maintenance of electronic reserve system and provides assistance with questions about copyright. Responsible for following trends and technology related to all areas of Access Services and updating Head of Collections & Access Services.
Teaching and Staff Training:
The Access Services/Reference Librarian is responsible for staff training in the following areas: New Student Assistant and Hourly Employee Training, Academic Resource Center training, and Staff Orientations and Workshops. In addition, the Access Services/Reference Librarian serves on the University of Washington Bothell Academic Services New Student Orientation Committee and is responsible for coordinating tours and orientations for new UW Bothell and Cascadia Community College students.
Serves as Campus Library liaison to Disability Coordinators at Cascadia Community College and University of Washington Bothell and provides curricular support in Disability Studies and American Sign Language.
Under the direction of the Head of Reference and Instruction, will partner with colleagues within the Library and campus to develop instructional materials that integrate information literacy into the curricula of both institutions. Assists with Cascadia's Composition and College Success classes and UW Bothell's Lower Division classes.
Reference:
Responsibilities include providing reference services in the Library's Information Commons and online through the UW Libraries' Q&A Live digital reference service. Some evening and weekend reference and instruction work will be required.
Collection Development:
Will work closely with faculty and librarians within their liaison areas to develop print and electronic curriculum-focused collections, whose development is informed by the larger research collections across the UW Libraries and regional consortia. Collection responsibilities include General Reference, Topics Collection, Disability Studies and American Sign Language.
Professional Development and Service:
The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in planning for the continued expansion of UW Bothell and Cascadia and to take responsibility for his/her professional development in pursuit of promotion and continuing appointment.
THE CAMPUS AND LIBRARY:
As one of three campuses served by the University of Washington Libraries, Cascadia Community College and the University of Washington Bothell share a campus in Bothell, 18 miles north of downtown Seattle. The combined student body is approximately 3,000 FTE. Growth at both institutions is expected to be steady for the next 10 years. Cascadia's degrees include an Associate in Integrated Studies (AIS), an Associate in Science (AS) and an Associate in Applied Science (AAS). The successful candidate will join a team of librarians, faculty and academic support staff committed to innovation in teaching and learning. Librarians enjoy considerable faculty, staff, and administrative support at UW Bothell and Cascadia, and participate in a wide variety of initiatives that foster a culture of learning. As part of UW Bothell's Academic Services division, the candidate will work closely with staff in the Media Center, Visual Resources, Teaching and Learning Center, and Information Systems.

Anticipated Start Date: July 1, 2007.
SALARY:
$40,000 minimum. Starting salary commensurate with qualifications and background.
BENEFITS:Librarians are academic personnel and participate in the University of Washington Retirement Plan (TIAA-CREF, The Vanguard Group, and/or Fidelity Investments) on a matching basis. Vacation is accrued at the rate of 24 working days per year; sick leave at the rate of 12 working days per year. No state or local income tax.
