A Note from Ujima Donalson,
POD Director
It’s said that hope springs eternal—but when faced with persistent challenges, it can be difficult to find that wellspring of hope within ourselves. To help you “see the light,” we’ve filled the spring issue of the Leading Edge with optimism and resilience.
I’m delighted that two colleagues from UW Medicine Health System Human Resources, Organization Development & Training have contributed to this issue, director Kurt O’Brien and senior consultant Beth Speck.
Kurt co-teaches Emotional Intelligence and related classes for POD, to much acclaim from participants, and Beth was a member of POD’s University Consulting Alliance before joining Kurt’s team. Also in this issue, professional speaker and trainer Wendy Shepherd expands upon material from her Network session on optimism with an article on reframing adversity.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going—and the optimistic and resilient keep going and going and going. I hope this issue will support you in a pursuit that is near and dear to my heart: finding the positives and possibilities in every situation and within yourself. Enjoy!
