Distinguished Staff Award
SELECTION PROCESS
The Distinguished Staff Award committee begins review of all nominations shortly after the submission deadline, carefully considering each nominee according to the award criteria.
All nominees with nominations submitted by the deadline that include the required letters—one nomination letter (600 word minimum, but no more than 1200 words) and three support letters (300 word minimum, but no more than 600 words each)—will receive a congratulatory letter and be invited to the Distinguished Staff Awards reception held in February. At the reception, open to all UW community members and guests of the nominees, nominees will receive a certificate and a copy of their nomination.
Final selection is completed by the committee with up to five individuals or teams receiving the annual honor. Awardees also receive $5,000 to use on professional development or other related activity as specified by Planning & Budgeting and in compliance with the state's current restrictions on cash recognition awards.
Awardees are notified by the Vice President of Human Resources in March and are invited to the University's Annual Awards of Excellence ceremony in late spring.
More About the Committee:
The Distinguished Staff Award committee is comprised of a combination of classified and professional UW staff members who represent a variety of positions and units. This diverse and well-rounded group serves staggered three-year terms in order to maintain consistency and generate new ideas. The self-governing committee is led by two co-chairs who are elected by the other committee members.
