Alene Moris Women’s Center

COVID-19 UPDATE:
As the COVID-19 crisis continues to affect our community, the Alene Moris Women’s Center is doing its best to navigate through this unprecedented event. Abiding by the guidelines set by the University of Washington to minimize the spread of COVID-19, and in keeping with the community’s best interest, the Women’s Center is postponing the June 2020 Alene Moris NEW Leadership Institute. At this time, we continue to accept nominations and applications for a future Institute, date to be determined.

2020 NEW Leadership Applicants: For those who applied prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, we have created a short survey (~5 minutes) where applicants can list their preferences for future participation. Please email newlead@uw.edu to receive the link.

2018 NEW Leadership Institute Schedule

Participants are undergraduate and graduate students representing a wide range of socioeconomic, ethnic, racial and educational backgrounds and academic majors. We encourage applications from non-traditional college students, underrepresented populations, and students majoring in diverse fields.

 Learning From Women Leaders

NEW Leadership participants are able to network with local women leaders who represent a wide range of political and civic backgrounds. During the Institute, participants hear and learn from women leaders who are actively engaged in changing society. While there is an emphasis on politics and the Institute hosts several elected officials, speakers come from a variety of backgrounds and sectors, including business, law, medicine, non-profit, and technology.

“Here I am, two years since I completed the Alene Moris Institute, and I am still thankful for the experiences and connections I made and know that our community is stronger because women have access to organizations like the Women’s Center.” NEW Leadership Alumna

Applications for the 2020 Institute are now OPEN.
