For Volunteers: Evaluating an Encore Opportunity
- How does the position contribute to the organization and to the common good?
- Is this a passion of mine? Is it likely to become one?
- Is there a job description? A written application? A clear line of reporting?
- How was this work handled before this was identified as an Encore position?
- What skills are required? Do I have them, or will I need special training? Is such training available or provided?
- What is the time commitment per day or week? How long is the position expected to last?
- Is this a specific project, with a clear goal, attainable accomplishments, and a definite impact?
- Is there orientation for new volunteers? Is a handbook or other material in writing provided?
- What opportunities exist for mutual evaluation and feedback?
- If this is a volunteer role, might it become a paid role? If so, would I be eligible for the position?

For Organizations: Developing an Encore Opportunity
- How does this position contribute to the organization’s goals and mission, as well as to the common good?
- Does the position have a job description? A written application? A clear line of reporting?
- How was this work handled before this was identified as an Encore position?
- What are the essential skills and/or experience for the position? Must the volunteer already meet all requirements, or will training be offered? By whom?
- What is the time commitment and work schedule for the position? How long will the position last?
- What are responsibilities and expectations of the Encore participant?
- Is this project specific, with clear goals, attainable accomplishments, and a definite impact?
- What are the plans for orientation for new volunteers? Are there written materials available?
- How will the position be evaluated, and how will feedback be given to the volunteer? How will the organization receive feedback from the volunteer?
- Is there a plan or possibility for the position to become a paid opportunity? If so, how and when will this be communicated to the Encore volunteer? Would the volunteer be eligible for consideration?
