Professor Jim LoGerfo, 2019 UW-UWRA Distinguished Retiree Excellence in Community Service award recipient, is a leader with a gift for encouraging others to invest their time, expertise, and often funds to help improve the health of people at home and abroad.

Recognized for his extensive volunteer work in Cambodia and other parts of Southeast Asia, LoGerfo has been instrumental in carrying UW Medicine’s mission forward: improving the identification and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases; increasing the focus on mental health treatment; elevating the role of social work in medical care; and enhancing the overall quality of medical education.

It’s interdisciplinary, high-impact, forward-looking work that embodies the best of UW’s mission — and it’s how he’s choosing to spend much of his time in retirement.

We hope you’ll join us for an afternoon of thoughtful conversation as together we explore the University’s commitment to population health and the challenges surrounding medicine in low-to-middle income countries.
