Congratulations to UWRA member James A. Banks, Kerry and Linda Killinger Endowed Chair in Diversity Studies Emeritus. Professor Banks was awarded a 2021 Society of Professors of Education Outstanding Book Award for his anthology, Diversity, Transformative Knowledge, and Civic Education: Selected Essays, published last spring by Routledge.

Member-to-Member: Bob Edmonds, Author: In Saving Forest Ecosystems: A Century Plus of Research and Education at the University of Washington, Edmonds blends historical sources with stories from his own 54-year association with the College of Forestry and the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences. In this conversation, he’ll talk about the eight-year process of bringing this book to publication, and share his thoughts about present and future forest science. How to Support Your Immune Health and Mental Health During COVID-19: The COVID-19 pandemic has shed light on the importance of mental health and raised questions about how immune systems work. Dr. Thuan Ong, a geriatric medicine specialist at UW Medicine, will host a conversation with UW Medicine’s Mark Wener, M.D. and Anne Browning, Ph.D., about how to care for your immune and mental health. 2021 Legislative Update: Join the Office of State Relations for a post–session legislative update. State Relations Director Joe Dacca will share how the UW’s legislative priorities were addressed during the 2021 legislative session and provide an update on the final compromise budgets.
