UWRA member Candace Plog recommends the books The Fifth Risk, by Michael Lewis; How To Lose a Country:  The Seven Steps from Democracy to Dictatorship, by Ece Temelkuran; and Uncanny Valley: A Memoir, by Anna Wiener.

The books Year of Wonders, by Geraldine Brooks (about the bubonic plague), and Weight of Ink, by Rachel Kadish, were recommended by member Lynn Klausenburger.

Member Mark Ondrake recommends BBC Documentaries and, in particular, Lucy Worsley’s entertaining history films, which can be found on YouTube.

Two workshops in June may be of particular interest to retirees: Prepare for the Reality of Health Care in Retirement (June 9 at 11 a.m.) and Turn Your Savings into Retirement Income (June 24 at 1 p.m.). Spread the Facts Video Series: Former UWRA Scholar and current UW School of Nursing faculty member Tatiana Sadak was interviewed about, “How to combat social isolation and loneliness.”  This hour-long video is part of a series from AARP, Washington State COVID-19 Joint Information Center, and TVW. Town Hall Recording: UW President Ana Mari Cauce hosted a virtual town hall on Friday, May 1, to address questions about UW’s plans for autumn quarter, emergency support for students, and other topics of interest to the UW community. Watch it HERE now.

Interested in part-time employment? Several divisions of the University of Washington are searching for candidates with UW experience who are open to a part-time schedule.
