UWRA News & Events, November 27

UWT History Presentation: We hope you can join UWRA Board Member Janet Primomo on Monday December 2, 12:30 PM, in UW-Tacoma’s Carwein Auditorium to hear Yonn Dierwechter, Professor of Urban Studies talk about The university as developer: the unfinished case of UWT.  Following the presentation, we can move to 7 Seas Brewery and Taproom on 2101 Jefferson Ave for further discussion!  The SIAS seminar is part of Kim Davenport’s Before and After UWT: An Interdisciplinary Look at our Campus History. Retirees (and the public) are invited to attend.  – Janet Primomo, jprimomo@uw.edu. PS.  Check out the UW Tacoma Oral History – Founding Stories. More stories are coming!

The UWRA Book Club’s next meeting will be on December 13 at 1:00 pm.  This is the annual poetry meeting where each attendee chooses a poem, preferably no more than one page, reads it and discusses it with the group. It helps to bring copies for each attendee.  For more information please contact Connie Bourassa-Shaw at cbshaw3216@gmail.com.

Interested in making the UW a more sustainable, carbon neutral place? Please join us to form a retiree interest group, where we can learn about what green sustainable practices the University currently has, which ones need support to continue and grow, and concrete action steps to assist the UW.  At the first meeting we will talk about what practices are already in place on campus, discuss what interests or concerns the group might have and start developing a plan for this group. Date, Time, Place: Friday, January 10th, 2020  10:30am -12pm. Gerberding Hall B70. RSVP is appreciated but not required: jmsmall@uw.edu
