Who do you know who is an exceptional volunteer? The University of Washington-UWRA Retiree Excellence in Community Service Award is designed to honor a UW retiree or team of UW retirees for excellence in service post-retirement. The award pays tribute to retirees from throughout the UW community who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to community service. For the first time this year, the award carries with it a $1,500 prize funded by the University of Washington Retirement Association. Nominations are open now – please nominate a retiree from any campus who is doing good work in retirement.


UWAA online book club: Currently reading Husky alum John Okada’s No-No Boy. This historical novel tells the story of a Washington state Japanese American in the aftermath of the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. Discussions just started – it’s not too late to join! Learn more…

Legislative Preview: College Access, Free Tuition and Financial Aid for the Middle Class. The recently-passed Workforce Education Investment Act offers free or reduced college tuition for the thousands of low- to median-income Washingtonians who qualify. UW Impact is convening a panel of lawmakers and higher education leaders to discuss this landmark legislation and next steps in improving access to higher education in the state. Panel participants will include UW President Ana Mari Cauce, State Representative and Washington Education Investment Act bill sponsor Drew Hansen and more.
