Engagement Opportunities

New UW Program: The Doorway Project – Part of Urban@UW’s Homelessness Research Initiative, the Doorway Project aims to engage the University District’s homeless, street-involved or marginalized youth, UW students and faculty, and University District service providers in innovative and impactful ways. Learn more about this UW effort to address homelessness HERE. Watch future UW Encore digests to learn about ways to get involved in this and other UW community programs.

peacecorpsPeace Corps Application Changes: You Choose!   Based on feedback from retiree volunteers, the Peace Corps’ application process has changed. For the first time in the 56 year history of the program you can now choose the project/country where you’d like to serve. Service is no longer a two year commitment. Opportunities can be as short as three months. See current openings HERE and HERE you’ll find a list of things to consider as an older volunteer.  Want to learn more about the possibility of taking a meaningful adventure? Contact the Peace Corps’ Matt Young at myoung2@peacecorps.gov

King County Holiday Volunteering Opportunities – From a tax perspective the holidays are a good time to make contributions to your favorite charities. Many find that contributions of time to community service are just as valuable now from a psychological perspective. There’s a wide array of ways to connect with and support your community during the holidays. Take a look at THIS holiday volunteering guide from the United Way of King County. Volunteering links for other United Way chapters can be found HERE.
