Text Adoption

The University of Washington Press publishes in a variety of academic fields, with specialization in Anthropology; Asian American Studies; Asian Studies; Environmental History; Native American and Indigenous Studies; Western History; and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Our books are regularly used as texts in college and university courses.

Examination and Desk Copy Policy

We are happy to provide examination and desk copies to qualified instructors of appropriate courses. To submit a request, please use the contact information below. Please provide the following information on your departmental letterhead:

  • Course title
  • Expected enrollment
  • Course dates
  • Author, title, and ISBN number
  • Name of the bookstore that will be ordering textbooks
  • Your shipping address

Exam copy requests are for faculty considering books for course adoption and are limited to three per professor per academic year. Please also note that the majority of our books are available via Google Book Search, which may assist with your adoption decision.

A desk copy is a book that has already been adopted for course use. If you have adopted a University of Washington Press book for use in a course, we thank you!
