Application Process

Applications for the 2021-2022 McNair Scholars Cohort is Now Open

Application Deadline: We are currently accepting applications from Sophomores on a rolling admission basis.

The 2020 McNair Scholars Application is an electronic application with all material submitted online via this webpage.  Please carefully read all instructions as all of the required application components must be submitted prior to the February 1st deadline.  It is recommended that you complete Part 2 as soon as possible since it is important to submit the names of your letter of recommenders prior to the application deadline as the letters of recommendation are due on February 3rd(See Part 2 of the application).  Before starting your application review the eligibility requirements and the program benefits.

Application Timeline:

  • Complete Part 2 of the Application as soon as possible.
  • February 1, 2021 by 5:00 pm: Application due date.
  • February 15 – 26: 2nd Round Interviews for selected applicants.
  • Early March: Final selections will be announced.

Application Components:

Part 1: Online Application.  This form should take 10-20 minutes to fill out the demographic information and to upload your documents, including the written essays. Application Part 1

Part 2Names and Contact information for either 1 or 2 individuals who will write you letters of recommendation. This will be submitted via Letter of Recommendation Form. See the form for full details.  Please submit this to the UW McNair program as early as possible to give your letter writers time to write and submit a letter.  This can be submitted as soon as you know who your letter writers are.  Generally, you want to give you letter writers at least 3 to 4 weeks notice. Part 3: Material that must be submitted in person if you are selected for a follow up interview during the last 2 weeks of February. Application Part 3

  1. Income Verification Forms
  2. Copy of your Financial Aid Award Letter
  3. Copy of residency verification (if necessary)
