UW Emergency Management

Megan Levy Biography

Megan Levy, MIPM
Business, Academic, and Research Continuity (BARC) Manager

em-032Megan got her start in emergency management as a member of the ReadyCorps (now FEMA Corps) through the AmeriCorps VISTA program. She served her term with the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) Center for Regional Disaster Resilience and continued on with PNWER following her AmeriCorps year. Over her 7 years at PNWER, Megan worked to build resiliency across the region by developing public/private partnerships. Through workshops, trainings, and exercises, she guided the region’s legislators, government agencies, and businesses in information sharing, identifying gaps and developing plans. She developed the Emerald Down Puget Sound Cyber Security Workshop series and the Idaho Cybersecurity Interdependencies Workshop Series, focused on identifying intersections and interdependencies between cyber, physical, and operational security in developing business continuity plans.

Megan is a graduate of the University of Washington’s Master of Infrastructure Planning and Management (MIPM) program. The degree prepares graduates to shape the infrastructure of the future — resilient, secure and accessible–with an eye to business continuity needs. Program courses focus on key infrastructure systems, like energy and communications, and system interdependencies. The culmination of her course work was her capstone, “Integration of Cyber Security and Physical Security for Critical Infrastructure: Improving Holistic Security through Business Continuity Policy for Response to Cyber Security Incidents.” Prior to her master studies, Megan received a Bachelor of Arts in cultural anthropology and a minor in political science from the University of Oregon. (Go ducks!)

Prior to UWEM, Megan dabbled in private sector life, serving as a program manager focused on cloud adoption policy and programs with Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise team.

Megan is an avid hiker, occasional runner, graphic designer, and amateur balloon twister. She lives in Seattle with her husband and baby boy, Wesley. She can make a truly exceptional roasted red pepper cream sauce.
