Undergraduate Research Program

Volunteer

Student, staff, and alumni volunteers are critical to the success of the Undergraduate Research Symposium. We welcome and appreciate all event volunteers!

Volunteers can sign up for as many shifts as they choose. The 2018 Symposium volunteer shifts are:

Wednesday, May 16, and Thursday, May 17, before the Symposium

Material preparation: Readying materials for Symposium Day

Time Options:

  • Wednesday – 11 a.m.-1 p.m. or 1-3 p.m.
  • Thursday – 10 a.m.-12 p.m. or 12-2 p.m.

Pre-event setup: Setup easels, tables, etc. in preparation for the Big Day!

Time:

  • Thursday – 4-6 p.m.
  • Thursday – 5:30-7 p.m.

Friday, May 18, the day of the Symposium

General Assistants: Greeters, Poster Setup, Traffic Directors, Food and Beverage Station Attendants, Registration Support, Signage, etc.

Time Options:

  • 8-10 a.m.
  • 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • 12-2 p.m.
  • 2-4 p.m.
  • 4-6 p.m.

Tear down: Clean up and tear down the event.

Time:

  • 5:45-7 p.m.

Oral Presentation Session Assistants: Take a fun, important and active role in assisting Oral Presenters and Faculty Moderators with technical equipment, keeping time, etc. for oral presentations.

Note: Session Assistant Volunteers must be willing to attend a brief training prior to the Symposium.

Time Options:

  • 12-2:15 p.m.
  • 3-5:15 p.m.

Visual Arts and Design Showcase Assistants: Enjoy art and design presentations while guiding Symposium attendees through the Visual Arts and Design Showcase in Odegaard Undergraduate Library.

Note: Visual Arts and Design Showcase Assistant Volunteers must be willing to attend a brief training prior to the Symposium.

Time Options:

  • 2:30-3:30 p.m.
  • 3-4 p.m.
  • 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Registration: Assistance in registering all presenters of the Undergraduate Research Symposium.

UW Staff and Invited Only: Registration Volunteers must be UW Staff or invited by URP to sign-up and train for registration shifts.

Time Options:

  • 7:45-9:45 a.m.
  • 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
  • 11:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m.
