Volunteer at the Undergraduate Research Symposium

Thank you to all our volunteers for the 25th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on May 20, 2022! Volunteers were critical to the success of this event!

Sign up for volunteer shifts

We will reach out to volunteers with more information and details closer to the event, and we’ll provide snacks to keep you fueled during your shift. If you have any questions, contact us at urp@uw.edu.

Volunteer roles and descriptions:

Material Preparation: 5/18 & 5/19 (in-person)

  • Readying materials for the Symposium day.
  • Multiple shifts available Wednesday, May 18 & Thursday, May 19

Pre-Event Setup & Pre-Registration: 5/19 (in-person)

  • Setup easels, tables, etc. in preparation for the big day!
  • Assist presenters wishing to register early.
  • Shifts available Thursday, May 19, 2022 3:00-6:00pm

General Assistants: 5/20 (in-person)

  • Poster/room setup, registration support, signage, greeters, traffic directors, engaging with poster presenters, poster handling, etc.
  • Multiple shifts available: Friday, May 20, 2022 between 8:00am to 6:00pm

Registration, UW Staff and Invited Only: 5/20 (in-person)

  • Registration Volunteers must be UW staff or invited by URP to sign-up and train for registration shifts.
  • Assist in registering all presenters of the Undergraduate Research Symposium.
  • This position requires a bit more in the way of responsibility and will include a brief training to go over registration procedure(s), duties, etc. prior to shifts.
  • Multiple shifts available Friday, May 20, 2022 between 7:45am-1:15pm

Oral Presentation Session Assistants: 5/20 (in-person)

  • Assist Oral presenters and faculty moderators with technical equipment, keeping time, etc. for oral presentations.
  • This position requires a bit more in the way of responsibility and includes one pre-event training session to go over technical equipment in the rooms, duties, etc. Further detailed info on how to sign up for a training session prior to the event will be emailed to Session Assistants.
  • Shifts available Friday, May 20, 2022 1:00-3:00pm and 3:15-5:15pm

Visual Arts and Design Showcase Assistants: 5/20 (in-person)

  • The Visual Arts and Design Showcase assistant will guide Symposium attendees to Odegaard Undergraduate Library to view the art displays and presentations by students.
  • Shifts available Friday, May 20, 2022, 2:00-3:30pm

Virtual Lightning Talk Session Assistants: 5/20 (online)

  • Assist Virtual Lightning Talk presenters and faculty moderators with Zoom room management, play students’ videos, keep time during Q&A, etc.
  • This position requires a bit more in the way of responsibility and includes one pre-event training session to go over technical aspects, duties, etc. Further detailed info on how to sign up for a training session prior to the event will be emailed.
  • Shifts available: Friday, May 20, 2022, 9:10-11:00am and 11:40am-1:30pm

Tear Down: 5/20 (in-person)

  • Clean up and tear down of event.
  • Shifts available Friday, May 20, 2022, 5:30-7:30pm
